Hawdon Street Private Cemetery ( or Heidelberg Old Cemetery) is tucked away in a side street in Heidelberg on the size of a building block, surrounded by houses.
It is the final resting place for many early pioneers of the area but it was a flooded river that saw the first occupant, an 11 year old child named Elizabeth Oswin, buried there.
The Hawdon Street Private Cemetery was once larger than it is today but encroaching housing development saw the exhumation and reburial of several bodies 40-50 years ago.
It is looked after by the Heidelberg Historical Society who have a wealth of information available.
